Knowledge of surficial snow properties such as grain size, surface roughness, and free-water content provides clues to the metamorphic state of snow on the ground, which in turn yields information on weathering processes and climatic activity. Remote sensing techniques using combined concurrent measurements of near-infrared passive reflectance and millimeter-wave radar backscatter show promise in estimating the above snow parameters. Near-infrared reflectance is strongly dependent on snow grain size and free-water content, while millimeter-wave backscatter is primarily dependent on free-water content and, to some extent, on the surface roughness. A neural-network based inversion algorithm has been developed that optimally combines near-infrared and millimeter-wave measurements for accurate estimation of the relevant snow properties. The algorithm uses reflectances at wavelengths of 1160 nm, 1260 nm and 1360 nm, as well as co-polarized and cross-polarized backscatter at a frequency of 95 GHz. The inversion algorithm has been tested using simulated data, and is seen to perform well under noise-free conditions. Under noise-added conditions, a signal-to-noise ratio of 32 dB or greater ensures acceptable errors in snow parameter estimation.  相似文献

Abstract

The electronic absorption spectrum of mesitylene vapour has been photographed on a Q-24 Medium Quartz Spectrograph. The molecule belongs to D3h symmetry and the transition is A→1A2 which is forbidden and due to that the (0,0) band does not appear in the spectrum. The position of (0,0) band in this case has been fixed at 36562 cm?1 with the help of 0→1 and 1→0 transitions. There are 66 bands and most of them are assigned in terms of two ground state frequencies of magnitudes 278 and 519 cm?1 and 7 excited state frequencies of magnitudes 267, 436, 554, 968, 1268, 1386 and 1575 cm?1  相似文献

Abstract

We report experimental and theoretical results on the conductive regime of electroconvection in hybrid aligned nematics. The drifting oblique/normal rolls below/above the Lifshitz frequency are observed at the onset of electroconvection under a.c. voltage. The experimental data on the threshold voltage, wavelength, oblique angle and drift period of the rolls as function of a.c. frequency are in good agreement with the results of linear stability analysis. The transition from drifting oblique rolls to abnormal rolls is found below the Lifshitz frequency with increasing applied voltage.  相似文献

To provide a reliable tool for investigating diffusion processes of the specific components of the human odor 3‐hydroxy‐3‐methylhexanoic acid and 3‐methyl‐3‐sulfanylhexan‐1‐ol through the snowpack, we developed and optimized an analytical method based on direct immersion solid‐phase microextraction followed by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry. Direct immersion solid‐phase microextraction was performed using polyacrylate fibers placed in aqueous solutions containing 3‐hydroxy‐3‐methylhexanoic acid and 3‐methyl‐3‐sulfanylhexan‐1‐ol. After optimization, absorption times of 120 min provided a good balance to shorten the analysis time and to obtain suitable amounts of extractable analytes. The extraction efficiency was improved by increasing the ionic strength of the solution. Although the absolute extraction efficiency ranged between 10 and 12% for 3‐hydroxy‐3‐methylhexanoic acid and 2–3% for 3‐methyl‐3‐sulfanylhexan‐1‐ol, this method was suitable for analyzing 3‐hydroxy‐3‐methylhexanoic acid and 3‐methyl‐3‐sulfanylhexan‐1‐ol concentrations of at least 0.04 and 0.20 ng/mL, respectively. The precision of the direct immersion solid‐phase microextraction method ranged between 8 and 16%. The variability within a batch of six fibers was 10–18%. The accuracy of the method provided values of 88–95 and 86–101% for 3‐hydroxy‐3‐methylhexanoic acid and 3‐methyl‐3‐sulfanylhexan‐1‐ol, respectively. The limit of detection (and quantification) was 0.01 ng/mL (0.04 ng/mL) for 3‐hydroxy‐3‐methylhexanoic acid and 0.06 ng/mL (0.20 ng/mL) for 3‐methyl‐3‐sulfanylhexan‐1‐ol. The signal versus concentration was linear for both compounds (r2 = 0.973–0.979). The stability of these two compounds showed that 3‐hydroxy‐3‐methylhexanoic acid was more stable in water than 3‐methyl‐3‐sulfanylhexan‐1‐ol. We applied the method to environmental samples in correspondence with an olfactory target buried previously.  相似文献

The development and success of the Swedish Combat Vehicle CV90 has demonstrated the abilities of the author in the field of terramechanics related to tracked military vehicles. The honour of the Bekker–Reece–Radforth Award 2002 has been granted in recognition of these achievements made during the author's employment at Hägglunds Vehicle AB since 1975. Hägglunds Vehicle AB has been a producer of military vehicles since the late 1950s, although the first years concentrated on production only. From the early 1960s, Hägglunds developed a number of its own tracked vehicles, all of which were influenced by the mobility demands dictated by their intended use in severe terrain conditions, such as those found in Northern Scandinavia. This paper presents a brief history of the advancement of tracked vehicle technology at Hägglunds Vehicle AB. The concepts discussed include: ground pressure, the number of road-wheels, articulated steering, track tension, track attack angle, sinkage, belly effects, and the use of terramechanic simulation. The success of the CV90 demonstrates that the combination of practical experience, terrain knowledge, and terramechanic simulations can effect substantial improvements in vehicle mobility. Evaluation of the CV90 versus other modern combat vehicles of the same class has shown that the CV90 possesses considerably higher mobility and speed under severe terrain conditions. These two attributes provide CV90 with the ability to access terrain that similar vehicles cannot, thus giving the military user greater mobility options.  相似文献

Abstract

Since 1985, the Goulden large-sample extractor (GLSE) has been used to isolate a broad array of trace-organic contaminants from large volumes of water. In this study, field-applied quality control measures, including matrix and surrogate spikes and blanks, were used to monitor method performance from GLSE extraction through GC-MS analysis. The method was applied to the determination of multiple classes of pesticides isolated from 4- to 112-L filtered surface-water samples. Average recoveries of six surrogate compounds ranged from 84 ± 18% for [2H10]diazinon to 15 ± 13% for 4,4′-[2H8]DDT, the low recoveries for which were largely a result of unmonitored breakdown of this surrogate by the GC injection system. Field-matrix-spike samples were prepared by fortifying 10-L, 35-L, and 110-L filtered surface-water samples with 68 pesticides to amended concentrations of 11-to 50-ng/L each. Recoveries ranged from not detected to greater than 100%. Variability in pesticide recoveries from triplicate 10-L water samples collected at one site averaged 5.7% relative standard deviation and did not exceed 19%.  相似文献

Development of high-mobility tracked vehicles for over snow operations   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
This paper describes a detailed investigation into the effects of some of the major design features on the mobility of tracked vehicles over snow. The investigation was carried out using the latest version of an advanced computer simulation model, known as NTVPM, developed under the auspices of Vehicle Systems Development Corporation (VSDC), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Results show that the road wheel system configuration, initial track tension (i.e., the tension in the track system when the vehicle is stationary on a level, hard ground) and track width have significant effects on vehicle mobility over snow. On deep snow where the vehicle belly (hull) contacts the snow surface, the location of the centre of gravity (C.G.) of the sprung weight in the longitudinal direction has a noticeable effect on vehicle mobility, as it affects the attitude of the belly and the belly–snow interaction. Based on the investigation, a conceptual high-mobility tracked vehicle for over snow operations is discussed. Results of this study will provide the vehicle designer with guiding principles for the development of high-mobility tracked vehicles. It also demonstrates that NTVPM is a useful and effective tool for design and performance evaluation of tracked vehicles from a traction perspective.  相似文献

Effects of time-periodic coupling strength (TPCS) on spiral waves dynamics are studied by numerical computations and mathematical analyses. We find that meandering or drifting spirals waves, which are not observed for the case of constant coupling strength, can be induced by TPCS. In particular, a transition between outward petal and inward petal meandering spirals is observed when the period of TPCS is varied. These two types of meandering spirals are separated by a drifting spiral, which can be induced by TPCS when the period of TPCS is very close to that of rigidly rotating spiral. Similar results can be obtained if the coupling strength is modulated by a rectangle wave. Furthermore, a kinetic model for spiral movement suggested by Di et al., [Phys. Rev. E 85 (2012) 046216] is applied for explaining the above findings. The theoretical results are in good qualitative agreement with numerical simulations.  相似文献
